Sheriff's Office Using Grant to Fund Additional Canine Unit
The grant is in excess of $70,000.

The Kendall County Sheriff’s Office will be using a newly-acquired grant to fund an additional canine unit. Two canines are currently in the service with the sheriff’s office.
The private grant, which is in excess of $70,000, will be used to purchase a specially equipped canine vehicle, fund an eight-week training program, purchase the canine and outfit the handler with the required care items. The new canine handler will begin training with his canine in October.
The canines are trained in narcotics detection, tracking of suspects/missing persons and handler protection.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant to fund an additional canine unit. Our canines have proven extremely valuable in the past,” said Kendall County Sheriff Dwight Baird. The addition of a third canine unit ensures we provide the citizens of Kendall County with the highest level of security and safety, at no additional cost to the taxpayer. I want to thank the private granter, who wished to remain anonymous, for their support.”
