'Fit Of Rage': Woman Fatally Shot Boyfriend In Back While On Probation, Prosecutors Allege

YORKVILLE, IL — The Yorkville woman accused of fatally shooting a man July 18 was on probation for an aggravated battery conviction at the time, court documents revealed.

Lindsy Kendrick, 31, was charged with six counts of first-degree murder, one count of aggravated battery with a firearm and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the death of Daevin Wlodek, 28.

Prosecutors say Wlodek was shot in the back as he was attempting to leave the apartment he shared with Kendrick.

Police were called at 1:36 a.m. July 18 to the 100 block of West Hydraulic Avenue after Kendrick called 911 to report her boyfriend had been shot at their apartment. Officers arrived to find the front door ajar, a body on the ground just inside the residence, and Kendrick still on the phone with dispatchers.

Kendrick initially told police Wlodek attacked her, then shot himself, according to court documents. Officers found a black 9mm SigSauer P320 on the floor near where Wlodek was lying.

"Kendrick further stated, on three separate occasions, that Wlodek was attempting to leave the apartment just prior to sustaining the wound," the arrest report reads.

Police took Kendrick into custody about 20 minutes after arriving at the residence. After reading her Miranda rights, she told police that during the altercation, before the shooting, "I'm sure we both were in a fit of rage," according to the court filing.

Paramedics brought Wlodek to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora, where he was pronounced dead. Although Wlodek had minor scratches and bruising on his hands, neck and lower extremities, the Kane County Coroner's Office's autopsy determined the gunshot wounds to be his sole cause of death. He also had long, blonde hair entwined in the fingers of his right hand, according to court documents.

Kendrick was uninjured, prosecutors allege.

"The physician performing the autopsy considered it unlikely that the gunshot wounds were self-inflicted," documents state.

According to police reports, surveillance video from a nearby brewery showed a man matching Wlodek's description running towards the Hydraulic Avenue residence at 1:15 a.m. At 1:22 a.m., a "single quick loud noise" consistent with a gunshot is heard on the recording, according to police.

The Kendall County State's Attorney's Office argued against Kendrick's pre-trial release based on her criminal history and the nature of the July 18 crime.

She was previously convicted of three counts of felony aggravated battery in Cook County and was sentenced in April to two years of probation. Her FOID card was also revoked at the time of the shooting.

Kendrick's next court date is scheduled for July 28.
