Alleged Sex Abuse Victim May Testify at Dennis Hastert Sentencing

The sister of another alleged victim also wants to testify.

An alleged male sex abuse victim may testify at Dennis Hastert’s sentencing April 27.

The former U.S. speaker of the House was previously scheduled to be sentenced at the end of February, and then again April 8. The sentencing was delayed yet again due to the man being unavailable, according to a report from the Associated Press.

The identity of the man has not been revealed, but prosecutors refer to him as "Individual D," according to a court transcript obtained by AP.

A sister of an alleged victim also wants to testify. While that person is unknown, Jolene Burdge said in June that her late brother, Steve Reinboldt, told her he had been sexually abused by Hastert.

Last week, U.S. District Judge Thomas Durkin ordered an independent health review of Hastert. Lawyers for Hastert sought a delay in the February sentencing date due to his health.

Hastert suffered a stroke in November 2015 and was treated for sepsis, in addition to having two back surgeries performed.

Hastert pleaded guilty in October to charges of lying to the FBI and evading currency reports. He will face probation or up to six months in jail for allegedly making structured withdrawals from a bank so as not to have to report them and in order to pay $3.5 million in hush-money to a person only identified as Individual A.

Hastert was paying this person over alleged sexual misconduct that took place at Yorkville High School when Hastert was a teacher and wrestling coach.
