Yorkville Performing Arts Center Hosted First Community Event

About 50 children participated in the free event, which served to both introduce YPAC to the community and benefit the Kendall County Food Pantry.

The Yorkville Performing Arts Center  hosted their first community event on Saturday at Community Christian Church in Yorkville.

The event was a two hour music and dance camp for children aged 3 to 12. The camp was free to all participants, provided that they brought a filled Easter basket to donate to a family in need. The baskets were donated to the Kendall County Food Pantry.

About 50 children participated in the camp. They were split into two age categories; 3 to 6-year-olds and 7 to 12-year-olds. The younger children made bunny rhythm shakers filled with beans and then learned to sing and dance to "The Bunny Hokey Pokey".

The older children learned to dance to One Direction's "Stand Up", performed by YPAC staff member Pat Nelson. The boys in the older group also learned to perform a drum beat using buckets and rhythm sticks.

After learning the dances, all of the children came together to do a rehersal performance in the church's auditorium. Then, the parents were invited into the auditorium to watch the performances.

At the end of the event, Emily Weber, owner and director of YPAC, raffled off a YPAC gift certificate to one lucky participant. All of the children also received YPAC goodie bags to take home with them.

The Yorkville Performing Arts Center is currently under construction at 2161 Route 47 in Yorkville. The center will officially open for classes on Sept. 9. Registration for fall classes will begin on April 22. YPAC will offer music and dance classes for all ages and skill levels.
