Yorkville Student Earns National Merit Scholarship

The YHS student plans to study law.

YORKVILLE, IL — A Yorkville Community Unit School District 115 student was awarded a 2018 college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship.

Lauren H. Daffenberg of Yorkville High School was awarded the Hillsdale College National Merit Scholarship. Daffenberg plans to pursue a career in law after attending the university in Michigan.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced approximately 3,500 winners of National Merit scholarships sponsored by colleges and universities. According to the organization, officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

These awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship, according to the organization. Sponsor colleges and universities include 100 private and 78 public institutions located in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
