Yorkville Student To Represent IL At Honor Band Of America
Childs, a junior, plays clarinet and will be joining the ensemble at Butler University.

From D115: Madison Childs, a junior at Yorkville High School, will join other outstanding musicians from across the nation as part of Music for All’s 2018 Honor Band of America. Madi was selected from numerous applicants for membership in this prestigious honor ensemble. She is a member of the Yorkville High School Wind Ensemble under the direction of Victor Anderson and Bobby Vriezen. She also takes private lesson instruction with Garrett Matlock.
Madi plays the clarinet and was selected by audition to rehearse and perform in concert as part of the Music for All National Festival, presented by Yamaha, March 15-17 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Honor Band of America is recognized as one of the finest scholastic ensembles in America.
The Honor Band of America is comprised of students from 23 states representing 69 high schools. They will perform in concert at 8:00 p.m. March 17 under the direction of Dr. Scott Weiss, Director of Bands, University of South Carolina. The performance will take place at Clowes Memorial Hall, located on the campus of Butler University. Members will also participate in instrumental master classes and other gala Festival events and socials.

Madi has received numerous honors including performing with the ILMEA All State Honors Band for the past two years, principal chair at the District 9 ILMEA district concert the past two years, the Northern Illinois Big 12 Honors Band and the Fox Valley Music Festival. She is also a member of the Chicago Youth Symphony Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tri M Music National Honor Society and the National Honor Society as well as the clarinet section leader for the Marching Foxes.
Band members were selected by recorded audition and evaluated by leading music educators. “To be selected from among their peers for membership in this national ensemble is a great achievement and honor,” says Debbie Laferty Asbill, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Music for All. “The 2018 Honor Band of America members are ambassadors of America’s music programs, as well as their states, schools and communities.”
