Yorkville Woman Fatally Hit By Pickup Truck

MELROSE PARK, IL — A Yorkville woman was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon after she was hit by a pickup truck while crossing a busy street, according to police. Vanessa Pierce, 26, was “attempting to cross all lanes of traffic” in the 2100 block of North Avenue at around 2:30 p.m. when she was hit, Melrose Park police told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Pierce was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and pronounced dead at 4:48 p.m., the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.

Police told the Chicago Tribune that Pierce was "crossing in the middle of the block without a crosswalk," and said the pickup truck driver is cooperating with authorities.
