1. IREAD results are in. See how your Central Indiana school performed (indystar.com) — Beech Grove City Schools saw about 74% of third graders pass the IREAD literacy test, giving local families a clear snapshot of how students are performing. The statewide data show overall gains in reading, with comparisons to nearby districts in Marion and Hamilton counties that help put Beech Grove's results in context.
2. Indy Council Raises Vehicle Taxes, Overrides Hogsett Veto (wibc.com) — Beech Grove drivers will soon pay a $25 annual registration fee for passenger vehicles and $40 for larger vehicles, aligning with nearby Greenwood. The change comes as Indianapolis dramatically raises its own vehicle taxes to fund road projects and qualify for additional state money, signaling a broader regional push to boost transportation funding.
3. Senior class ready to have a special year for Edgewood football (bluewaterhealthyliving.com) — Edgewood's senior-heavy football team will visit Beech Grove on Aug. 28 and later face Indianapolis Scecina in a conference matchup hosted at Beech Grove. With a powerful run game led by Braxton Carpenter and a deep, experienced defense, the Mustangs expect a breakout year, giving local fans two chances to see a strong opponent come to town.
4. Suspects in $2M Indy jewelry heist are allegedly part of 'terrorist cartel' Tren de Aragua (wane.com) — A suspect in a $2 million southeast Indianapolis jewelry heist reportedly stayed at a Beech Grove motel and was told to wait near a local Dollar General before the robbery. Police say the five arrested suspects admitted ties to the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang, and most of the stolen jewelry and cash were recovered after a multi-county chase on I-65.
