FEMA chief wants 'timely support' for Indiana storm-damage recovery (mirrorindy.org) — Federal and state officials toured a destroyed four-lane bridge in Carmel as FEMA's administrator promised to speed financial help for Indiana communities hit by August's severe storms and White River flooding. With damage estimates in the billions and thousands seeking aid, residents near Carmel should watch for state and federal relief programs and ongoing safety concerns along the river and local infrastructure.
2. Women to discuss faith, finances at free conference in Carmel (youarecurrent.com subscription) — Women from Carmel and across Indiana are invited to a free Better Together conference on faith and finances Sept. 22 at Ritz Charles on North Meridian Street. The evening features a keynote by author Rachel Awtrey, breakout sessions on wellness and generosity, dinner, and worship. Registration is open through Sept. 15 for those wanting a faith-based space to rethink money and stewardship.
3. 'Game of the Week': Carmel vs. Center Grove (wishtv.com) — Carmel football fans can watch the Greyhounds host Center Grove in the Copper Kettle rivalry game Friday at 7 p.m. in Carmel, their first MIC league matchup in five years. Both teams enter 1-1, with analysts eyeing Carmel's defense and Center Grove's balanced offense. The game airs live on MyIndy-TV 23, with highlights later on WISH-TV's The Zone.
4. Airbnb woes: Westfield resident speaks out about neighboring short-term rental (youarecurrent.com) — A Westfield neighbor is pushing city leaders to rein in a busy short-term rental that's bringing late-night noise, trespassing and traffic to her cul-de-sac, just a short drive from Carmel. Officials say state law limits how much Westfield, Fishers and Carmel can restrict Airbnbs, though Carmel has tried broader rental caps that drew pushback from legislators. Residents are urged to press state lawmakers for change.
5. 500 Festival raises $60K for flood-impacted students (youarecurrent.com) — A Carmel-based nonprofit, New Shoe Day, helped the 500 Festival Foundation raise $60,000 to buy 2,000 pairs of shoes and socks for Indiana students affected by August flooding. The campaign quickly surpassed its original $25,000 goal, boosted by a Lucas Oil match. Shoes will support KidsFit schools, including a new shoe pantry in Centerville-Abington, while residents can still donate or volunteer online.
