1. 11th annual Brain Bolt 5K returns to Carmel to support neurotrauma research (wishtv.com) — Carmel residents can join the 11th annual Brain Bolt 5K at the Carmel Gazebo this Saturday, supporting neurotrauma research and education. The family-friendly event features survivor stories, kids' activities, sponsor booths, and a relaxed atmosphere where you can walk, volunteer, or simply hang out. Registration is $35 and stays open until race time.
2. Carmel conference to connect seniors, students (youarecurrent.com) — Carmel's Mayor's Advisory Commission on Senior Living will host its free "Intergenerational Day for Seniors" conference Oct. 16 at University High School, aiming to connect students and older adults. Sessions will tackle loneliness, housing, AI, community involvement, and wellness, with a keynote from an IU Kelley School professor. Carmel High School and University High students can earn service hours by participating.
3. Hazel Dell Parkway bridge is demolished (indystar.com) — Hazel Dell Parkway bridge at 106th Street in Carmel has been demolished following severe flood damage, keeping Hazel Landing Park and nearby areas closed while utilities are restored. Residents should expect ongoing disruption around the roundabout and quarry area as crews repair washed-out parking lots, water and sewer lines, and continue flood recovery work in this busy corridor.
4. Carmel fire chief eager to lead new state office (youarecurrent.com) — Carmel Fire Department Chief and Carmel resident Joel Thacker is leaving his post Oct. 23 to lead Indiana's new Office of Cybersecurity, after previously directing the state's homeland security agency. He highlights recent improvements to Carmel's fire and EMS services, including added west-side ambulance coverage and new equipment, and says he plans to stay involved locally while Deputy Chief Lucas Ray serves as interim chief.
5. Billy Joel tribute shows lands at Palladium in Carmel (youarecurrent.com) — Carmel music fans can catch "The Billy Joel Legacy: A Tribute Experience" at the Palladium on Oct. 8, kicking off a new Studio M Tribute Series. The show blends live performances with multimedia storytelling about Joel's life and songs. Additional tribute concerts to Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, the Beach Boys, and Steely Dan round out the 2026–27 lineup.
