Carmel skating rink, Christmas market Opens Nov. 18
DETAILS: The popular German Christmas tradition and attractions opening in Carmel Nov. 18, and the big contest taking place.

CARMEL, IN — Carmel Christmas festivities kick off Saturday, Nov. 18 for the opening day of Carmel's new ice skating attraction and "Christkindlmarkt", located at 10 Center Green. The first day to experience the outdoor ice skating rink, called The Ice at Center Green, and the German Christmas market is posted on Carmel Christkindlmarkt's Facebook event page. According to the page, the Christmas market tradition has been enjoyed since the middle ages in Saxony, Germany, and is now being brought to Carmel.
After the grand opening, the Christkindlmarkt runs Wednesday to Sunday through Dec. 24.

If you love the Christmas season and the festivities that come with it, applications are still being accepted for the Chistkind 2017. The Christkindlmarkt Essay Contest is a chance to get involved in the community by bringing and opening the German tradition in Carmel as the Christkind 2017. According to the contest website, the Christkind is a well-known symbol of Christmas in German-speaking countries, and is an angel that delivers Christmas trees and presents to German children on Christmas Eve without being seen.
