DETAILS: The cost of the damage done to the Carmel park area this summer, according to Hamilton County Sheriff's Office officials.

CARMEL, IN — Hamilton County Sheriff Office said officials are continuing to investigate criminal mischief that resulted in thousands of dollars of damage at a Carmel park last month. According to a release, Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office investigators presented the results of an investigation to the Prosecutor’s Office surrounding three juveniles and their connection to the criminal mischief case at Coxhall Gardens. Sheriff's Office officials said deputies responded to the park on Aug. 1 when Hamilton County Parks personnel found damage inside the area after closing hours.

Officials report four juveniles were detained inside the park after deputies discovered them near the damaged property, adding a Sheriff's Office report claims the group members were allegedly responsible for smashing decorative lights, pushing over benches, and vandalizing signs.

Officials said it cost nearly $5,000 to clean up, repair and replace the damaged property, and deputies are also investigating other incidents of criminal mischief at Coxhall Gardens over the last three months. The Sheriff's Office reports there were estimates of nearly $14,000 in damages done to county property this summer, according to Allen Patterson, Director of Hamilton County Parks and Recreation.
