PICS: Iguana, Other Pets Rescued From Carmel House Fire

Carmel Fire Dept. officials report no injuries and damage was kept to a minimum during the Sunday evening fire at 136th and Towne.

CARMEL, IN - Carmel firefighters performing pet rescues from house fires are common, but the department reports a Sunday rescue that was far from "normal," thanks to an iguana and other pets. Department crews responded to an evening house fire at 136th and Towne. According to the department, Engine 346 had a fast response to the fire alarm and performed a quick knock down in order to get inside the home and keep damage to a minimum. The department said the family was not home during the fire, and another truck was reportedly able to search the home and rescue several pets.

A spokesperson for the Carmel Fire Department told Patch there were no injuries to any firefighters. "All the pets we're pulled out and were OK," the spokesperson said. "Fire was most likely electrical. The fact the bedroom door was closed kept this fire from being much worse."
