Suspect Arrested After IMPD Officers Shot At During Traffic Stop
Man arrested after two IMPD officers were shot at while conducting a traffic stop on the southwest side.

Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) SWAT team arrested a male suspect Monday after two IMPD police officers were shot at Sunday evening during a traffic stop near the cities southwest side. IMPD says 27-year-old Ryan McGill was arrested just after 1 a.m. Monday in the 1300 block of South Belmont Avenue, before he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital by IEMS for observation. Homicide Detectives arrested McGill on suspicion of two counts of attempted murder and robbery in the Sunday evening traffic stop.
IMPD says the officers stopped the suspect near the intersection of Howard and Shepard Streets at 7:30 p.m., when the man exited the passenger side of the car and started shooting at the two officers inside the police vehicle. The shots hit the police car several times, however police did not shoot back.
IMPD reports the man returned to the car as the driver exited and surrendered to police. That's when the suspect drove away in the car, leading officers from all six of the city's districts to help search for him.
