β’ Elkhart weighs pause on data centers and battery storage projects as interest grows (wsbt.com) β Elkhart city leaders are considering a temporary moratorium on new large data centers and battery energy storage facilities so they can study potential impacts and set clear rules. The proposal would halt new applications while allowing existing ones to proceed, with the pause lasting until regulations are finished or December 31, 2027. A special council meeting on August 27 will include public comment and a vote.

β’ Elkhart County man accused of trying to recruit informant to kill someone (wndu.com) β An Elkhart County man has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder after investigators say he tried to recruit a confidential informant to fatally shoot another person. Detectives from the Elkhart County Homicide Unit recorded a planning conversation and later arrested the suspect during a traffic stop. He remains jailed on high bond and is scheduled for an initial court hearing later this month.

β’ Tara Scott, 54 β WLKM Radio 95.9 FM (wlkm.com) β Family and friends are mourning Tara Elaine Scott, 54, who passed away at Elkhart General Hospital and leaves behind a son living in Elkhart, another in Constantine, and several grandchildren. Remembered as "Grammie," she loved time outdoors with her grandkids, cherished holiday traditions, and will be deeply missed by loved ones across the region.
