1. West Nile Virus Detected in Evansville (wnin.org) — West Nile virus has been detected in Evansville mosquitoes for the first time this year, prompting a warning from the Vanderburgh County Health Department. Officials say most infections are mild but can be severe for older adults and people with weakened immune systems. Residents are urged to avoid peak mosquito hours, use EPA-approved repellents, cover exposed skin, and remove standing water around homes.
2. Here's how many applied for Vanderburgh County data center study group (courierpress.com) — Vanderburgh County, based in Evansville, has received 50 applications from residents hoping to serve on a new data center research committee that will temporarily pause data center permits. County commissioners will review applicants at Tuesday's 9:30 a.m. Civic Center meeting, where they'll also consider an ordinance outlining a months-long study of data centers' impacts on infrastructure, environment, and the local economy.
3. 16-year-old arrested for robbery held on $10,000 bond, officials say (14news.com) — An Evansville 16-year-old is being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail on a $10,000 bond after investigators say phone evidence tied him and another juvenile to a July robbery and a stolen vehicle. Police reportedly recovered a handgun from the other juvenile during an August stop, then used phone data to link both teens to the holdup and car theft.
4. Evansville man accused of threatening officer while being taken to jail (14news.com) — An Evansville man was arrested after police say he refused to identify himself during a late-night stop near South Bedford and Madison avenues and later threatened an officer while being taken to jail. Officers report finding a small bag of marijuana and an open alcohol container during a search. The man is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail on intimidation and related charges.
