📰 News we're reading

1. Here are some cooling shelters open this week in Evansville (courierpress.com) — With Evansville under a dangerous heat advisory all week, several local sites are open as cooling centers where you can get out of the triple-digit heat index. Central Library, Evansville Rescue Mission and United Caring Services are welcoming residents during daytime hours, with standard conduct rules in place and 211 available to help people find additional resources.

2. New traffic shifts ahead for Evansville commuters (tristatehomepage.com) — Evansville drivers are seeing major traffic pattern changes along the Lloyd Expressway, with new displaced left-turn lanes open on the east side and more work underway at Red Bank Road on the west side. INDOT warns of paving, flaggers, and evolving lane closures starting September 2, urging commuters to slow down, follow signs, and expect delays through fall.

3. Oil Painting Class: Autumn Landscape + Ghost (evansvilleliving.com) — If you've ever wanted to try oil painting, the Evansville Museum is hosting a two-part beginner class this fall where you'll create an autumn landscape, with the option to add a ghostly twist. Sessions run September 27 and October 4, include all supplies, and require an RSVP by September 14, with different prices for members and nonmembers.

4. Evansville landmark makes most endangered list: 'Too important to lose' (14news.com) — A historic Evansville church on Mulberry Street has been named one of Indiana Landmarks' most endangered places because of serious roof and water damage threatening its unique architecture. Preservation advocates say losing the former First Church of Christ, Scientist would erase a key work by an important Evansville architect and a tangible reminder of the city's more ambitious civic past.

5. EPD: Woman caught with meth, pills, and fentanyl during stop (14news.com) — Evansville police say a local woman was stopped for violating a city pedestrian ordinance and then found with small amounts of meth, fentanyl, marijuana, pills, and paraphernalia.
