1. Reitz High School Students reflect on 9/11 (tristatehomepage.com) — At Reitz High School in Evansville, a longtime history teacher is helping students who weren't born on 9/11 grasp how frightening and uncertain that day felt. Seniors say hearing personal stories and discussing the nearly 3,000 lives lost has changed how they understand the attacks and why remembering them still matters.
2. 'Light a Lantern Ceremony' at Gavin Park helps community remember 9/11 attacks (tristatehomepage.com) — Evansville residents gathered at Garvin Park for a lantern-lighting ceremony that personally honors individual 9/11 victims and keeps their stories alive. Organized by the Evansville Flag Group, the effort pairs locals with victims and could eventually lead to a permanent memorial in the park once every life lost is represented.
3. State to hold meetings on HIP work requirements (dailyjournal.net) — Evansville HIP members and providers will have a chance to learn about new work requirements at a state-run town hall on Sept. 18 at Ivy Tech Evansville's Vectren Auditorium. The session, part of a statewide series, runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Central and is aimed at answering questions from residents, healthcare partners, and community groups.
4. Evansville man accused of threatening, chasing juveniles with knife (14news.com) — Evansville police say a 45-year-old man was arrested Saturday after allegedly threatening three juveniles with a knife and following them as they tried to get away on bicycles near South Green River Road. Officers report finding a knife, alcohol, and synthetic drugs, and the suspect now faces intimidation, synthetic drug possession, and public intoxication charges in the Vanderburgh County Jail.
5. Evansville woman accused of threatening victim with knife during attempted break-in (14news.com) — Evansville police say a 20-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly showing up at a victim's East Iowa Street home with a large kitchen knife, breaking windows, and trying to force her way inside. Investigators report the confrontation followed a workplace dispute and earlier property damage, and the suspect now faces attempted burglary, intimidation, and criminal mischief charges in Vanderburgh County Jail.
