Evansville teen facing adult charges for gun video near Bosse High (courierpress.com) — A 16-year-old Evansville resident is facing potential adult charges after police say he filmed himself with a gun and mimed firing toward Bosse High School from a vehicle about 120 yards away. Evansville police and school officers briefly secured nearby schools, recovered the firearm, and routed the case into Vanderburgh Circuit Court, where a probable cause hearing was scheduled Wednesday afternoon.

Evansville park leaders prioritize maintenance, safety in proposed 2027 budget (14news.com) — Evansville officials are prioritizing safety and long-delayed repairs in a proposed 2027 parks budget, including better lighting, sidewalks, and security cameras across all 46 city parks. The plan also funds playground inspections, removal of unsafe equipment, and completion of major renovations at the C.K. Newsome Community Center, set to reopen in early 2027 if the City Council approves the budget in October.
   

3. 'It's just like we on a waiting game': Evansville tenant says apartment hits 87 degrees as AC stays broken (14news.com) — An Evansville woman at Schnute Apartments on West Franklin Street says her building's air conditioning has been out for six days during the ongoing heat wave, with her unit reaching 87 degrees. The Evansville Housing Authority says parts are on order and temporary cooling measures are in place, while she now also reports losing hot water as she worries about health risks.
   

4. Retired Evansville Police K9 Doc Passes After Years of Service (newstalk1280.com) — Evansville residents are remembering retired police K9 Doc, who served the city for nearly a decade before retiring in 2024 and recently passing away at home with his family. Partnered with Officer John Montgomery, Doc helped make dozens of apprehensions, seized large amounts of drugs and cash, and later enjoyed a quieter life of family trips and school pickup duty in retirement.
   

5. Doctors warn of heat-related dangers as heat wave continues (14news.com) — Doctors at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville say they've already treated more than 80 heat-related illnesses this month, a 260% jump over last September, as the current heat wave drags on. They're urging residents to watch for signs of heat exhaustion and stroke, limit time outdoors, rest in the shade, and stay hydrated with water and electrolyte drinks.
