1. Indiana completes ORX-69 approaches; bridge construction can begin next spring (westkentuckystar.com) — Evansville drivers are a big step closer to a new I-69 Ohio River bridge now that Indiana has finished the Section 3 approach work on the city's side. Officials say both Indiana and Kentucky approaches will serve as construction access and later carry traffic once the bridge opens, with main bridge construction expected to start in spring 2027 and wrap up around 2031.
2. Who's in the News? Anne McKim (tristatehomepage.com) — Evansville's YWCA has a new leader, as longtime local nonprofit professional and Central High School graduate Anne McKim steps in as CEO. With roots in Evansville and experience at the Arts Council and Public Education Foundation, she says the YWCA mission and a family tradition of service drew her to the role. Her focus is on making a daily difference for the community.
3. EPD: Woman nearly crashes into detective, hides meth in pants (14news.com) — Evansville police say a local woman nearly crashed into a detective on Franklin Street Saturday evening, then sped off before being stopped and found with meth hidden in her pants. Officers report she lacked insurance and was already on work release for a prior meth case. She's now booked into Vanderburgh County Jail on multiple charges, including reckless driving and possession of meth.
4. EPD: Motorcyclist arrested after fleeing traffic stop near Civic Center (14news.com) — Downtown Evansville drivers and pedestrians saw a brief but risky motorcycle pursuit Saturday night after an officer spotted a dirt-bike style bike without a plate near Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Sycamore. Police say the rider sped through streets near Main Street Food & Beverage before stopping in the Civic Center lot, where he was arrested on resisting and reckless driving charges.
5. UE Students Are Using AI to Improve EVV Sidewalks (businessdailynetwork.com) — Evansville residents may soon spot a small AI-powered robot, Gizmo, rolling along East Side sidewalks as University of Evansville students map problem areas for the Sidewalks4All initiative. The project aims to improve ADA compliance and safety citywide while giving students hands-on engineering and community engagement experience. You can even upload sidewalk photos to help train the system and guide future repairs.
