Evansville residents call for Flock funding to be cut in 2027 budget (thegleaner.com) — Evansville residents packed City Council chambers to urge leaders to cut funding for Flock license‑plate cameras and related AI software from the proposed 2027 budget. Speakers argued the $265,000 allocation should instead support social programs, citing privacy, discrimination, and past misuse cases as reasons to let the Evansville Police Department's current Flock contract expire in November.
2. Evansville apartments \u200bfor rent stayed steady since last August (courierpress.com) — If you're renting in Evansville, apartment prices have held steady, with the overall median at about $1,000, roughly the same as last month and last August. Local rents remain well below state and national medians, with one- and two-bedroom units still significantly cheaper than elsewhere in Indiana and across the country.
3. Drone helps Evansville police catch two in copper wire theft, officials say (14news.com) — Evansville police used a department drone to track and arrest two people accused of stealing more than 100 pounds of copper wire from a fenced CenterPoint Energy lot on North Evans Avenue. Officers say they followed the suspects' path to taped bundles of wire and matching grease on a cut fence, before booking both into the Vanderburgh County Jail.

University of Evansville students use AI and robots to map sidewalk access (wishtv.com) — Evansville residents may soon see sidewalk problems mapped in detail as University of Evansville students deploy an AI-powered robot to scan local walkways, starting in the Promise Neighborhood. Their Sidewalks4All project, supported by city and planning officials, also invites residents to report issues through a Walk Audit app to improve accessibility data and future fixes.
5. SONIC foundation donates $20K to Evansville area classrooms (14news.com) — Public school teachers in the Evansville area can now apply for funding for classroom projects thanks to a $20,000 donation from the SONIC Foundation tied to two high-performing local restaurants. Educators are encouraged to submit projects through DonorsChoose.org, as Evansville benefits from a national $500,000 initiative recognizing top SONIC teams.
