Safer Evansville Town Hall Series Begins October 14 (newstalk1280.com) — Evansville residents are invited to two Safer Evansville town halls this month to talk directly with Mayor Stephanie Terry, police, and other justice officials about crime trends and public safety. Meetings on October 14 and 29 will share local crime data, highlight enforcement and community engagement efforts, and gather neighborhood feedback to shape a community-driven safety plan.
2. Why a Robot Is Roaming Evansville, Indiana Sidewalks (my1053wjlt.com) — A student-built robot named Gizmo is rolling along Evansville sidewalks to map cracks, ramps, and other accessibility issues, starting in the Evansville Promise Neighborhood. University of Evansville students are using AI to create a citywide sidewalk-condition map, and residents can add their own reports through the Sidewalks4All Walk Audit app to help improve mobility for everyone.
3. Fall Festival vendors say perfect weather is driving record crowds — and record sales (14news.com) — Evansville's Fall Festival is drawing record crowds and sales this week, with booths like Troop 350 and the Greater Evansville Figure Skating Club selling out popular items early. Vendors credit the mild weather for the surge and warn festivalgoers to grab their must-have foods first, as many stands are restocking multiple times a day to keep up.
4. Ex-owner of Evansville social media site arrested again (courierpress.com) — An Evansville man formerly tied to the Evansville 411 News Facebook page has been arrested again, this time on state fraud and theft charges linked to a used car sale. Court records outline an alleged scheme involving a canceled lien payment that left a local dealership unable to obtain a vehicle title, on top of his prior federal fraud convictions.
5. West Side Nut Club honors 14 News Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons with award (14news.com) — At Evansville's West Side Nut Club Fall Festival, longtime 14 News Chief Meteorologist Jeff Lyons was surprised with a special award honoring his decades of keeping the Tri-State, and especially the city's west side, informed and safe. Fans turned out to thank him just days after he announced his upcoming retirement, while the station named Byron Douglas as the next chief meteorologist.
