📰 News we're reading

• Slowing the surge: Trees prove critical following White River flooding (youarecurrent.com) — Fishers residents saw the value of local conservation when recent White River flooding filled the Nonie Werbe Krauss Nature Preserve but was slowed by thousands of trees planted there. Central Indiana Land Trust and the City of Fishers are now organizing volunteers to safely clear debris, while also eyeing other low-lying areas that could be reforested to better protect nearby neighborhoods from future floods.

• Fishers, HSE looking to turn seasons around in annual Mudsock rivalry game (wthr.com) — Fishers football fans get a big night Friday as the Tigers head east on 126th Street to face Hamilton Southeastern in the annual Mudsock rivalry, both chasing their first conference win. With a freshman quarterback leading Fishers and HSE leaning on a strong ground game, the matchup offers locals a fresh chance to see whether the Tigers can extend their four-game streak over the Royals.

• Community Connection - September 10, 2026 (praiseindy.com) — A Fishers-based psychologist joined other Indiana experts on the Community Connection radio show to confront rising suicide rates among young Black Americans and the deep stigma around mental health in minority communities. They urged treating mental health like any other illness, investing in culturally competent providers, and tackling root causes such as racism, trauma, and social disconnection, while highlighting resources like 988 and local counseling services.
