Ten grants are available, with applications open through Oct. 30, and funds can cover apparel, water, snacks, and other supplies to get Fishers residents moving and connecting with neighbors.

Bestselling author Kelly Yang returns to Fishers Library Oct. 19 (larryinfishers.com) β Fishers families can meet bestselling author Kelly Yang at the Fishers Library on Monday, Oct. 19, as she celebrates the new graphic novel adaptation of her hit book "Front Desk." The free Hamilton East Public Library event, held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. with LoudMouth Books, includes a talk, book signing, and on-site book sales, but requires advance registration.

Columbus man charged in death of Hailey Buzbee, 17, pleads not guilty (indystar.com) β A Columbus man has pleaded not guilty to federal charges in the kidnapping and death of 17-year-old Hailey Buzbee, who was last seen Jan. 5 at her home in Fishers. Prosecutors say he met her online, then transported her across state lines before her death, and federal officials are still deciding whether to seek the death penalty as her family follows every court hearing.

4. Athlete of the week: Fishers High School senior develops leadership, offensive skills. (youarecurrent.com) β Fishers High School senior soccer captain Valentino "Tino" Lapitz is emerging as both a key goal-scorer and locker-room leader for the Tigers this season.
