Cathedral Grad Dies While Traveling Overseas

Kassandra 'Kassie' Braun died during independent travel while participating in the Semester at Sea program: Report

FISHERS, IN — Family and friends are mourning the death of a 2015 Cathedral High School graduate who died during a trip to Myanmar Tuesday, while on independent travel in the Semester at Sea Program. In a statement, Semester at Sea said Kassandra "Kassie" Braun fell while traveling in Bagan, and passed away on the way to the hospital after she was severely injured in the tragic event. Braun was attending St. Edward's University in Texas, and the program says mental health counselors and shipboard resources are being used to provide a supportive environment for the Semester at Sea community.

A Semester at Sea official published a statement from Braun's family, who says they are "absolutely devastated by the tragic death of their daughter and sister."

"She was so full of life and love, gave so much to so many," Kassie’s parents, Chalene and Dave Braun, said in a statement. "She had a tremendous love for her friends and teachers at Cathedral High School and St. Edward’s University."
