FISHERS, IN – Fishers Police say they're investigating a crash between an SUV and semi-truck that took place Monday night on southbound I-69 near the 208 mile marker, as one person remains hospitalized. According to police officials, the Hamilton County Dispatch Center received a call just before 6 p.m. reporting that an SUV had rear ended a semi-truck in heavy traffic. Based on witness accounts and evidence from the scene, police say the crash took place after the semi slowed down and stopped due to the heavy traffic, while the SUV's driver didn't slow down enough and hit the back end of the semi-truck's trailer.
Northbound and southbound lanes of I-69 near mile marker 208 were shut down during clean up, and drivers were diverted onto Southeastern Pkwy at the 210 mile marker until lanes reopened.
Police say due to the damage to the SUV, the driver had to be extricated by members of the Fishers Department of Fire and Emergency Services and taken to the hospital by a medical helicopter. He was the only person inside the SUV, and police it doesn't seem that drugs or alcohol were a cause in this crash.
