Hamilton County Under Flood Warning, Sandbags Available

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department issued a Flood Warning via the National Weather Service in Indianapolis for the county: More

HAMILTON COUNTY, IN -- The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department says the National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Flash Flood Warning in addition to a recently issued Flood Warning for Hamilton County until 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, as flooding is already starting. The department reports 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is already on the ground with more expected. The Flash Flood Warning is for the southern part of the county.

Sheriff's Department officials say if you live in these areas, move to higher ground immediately.

As rain is expected to continue across the county Tuesday, sandbags are available for pick up until 6 p.m. at Hamilton County Hazardous Waste, 1717 N. Pleasant St, Noblesville. Officials say sandbags are most effective if placed before flood waters rise.

According to a release from the sheriff's department, locations that will experience flooding include Anderson, Brownsburg Carmel, Chesterfield, Cicero, Daleville, Edgewood, Fishers, Fortville, Jamestown, Knightstown, Ingalls, Lapel, McCordsville, Meridian Hills, Muncie, New Castle, Noblesville, Parker, Pendleton, Pittsboro, Union City, Westfield, Whitestown, Winchester and Zionsville.

The Flash Flood Warning also includes the following highways...Interstate 65 between mile markers 120 and 137.Interstate 69 between mile markers 200 and 230.Interstate 74 between mile markers 48 and 69.

The sheriff's office is reminding drivers to "turn around, don't drown" when approaching flooded roads as most flood deaths take place in vehicles. Act quickly and take precautions to protect you and your loved ones' lives, in addition to those living along streams and creeks.
