Indiana Doubles National Average For Kids In Out-Of-Home Care
A review finds that the number of Indiana children removed from their homes and placed in state care is double the national average: Report

ACROSS INDIANA β AP News reports the number of children removed from their Indiana homes and placed in state care is double the national average, according to a consultant reviewing the state's child welfare agency. Gov. Eric Holcomb hired the Child Welfare Policy and Practice Group to review the Department of Child Services after former agency head Mary Beth Bonaventura resigned, AP News says, adding that she accused Holcomb's administration of service cuts that "all but ensure children will die."
On Thursday, officials said the state needs a better system for tracking child abuse and neglect cases, as the consultant hasn't reported much yet.
According to AP News, the number of children placed in foster care because their drug-addict parents canβt care for them has highly increased across the country, with Indiana's number showing a critical need for change.
