IPL Wants To Increase Two Monthly Indy-Area Charges

Indianapolis Power & Light Co. is looking to raise two monthly charges for its residential customers: Report

INDIANAPOLIS — Some Indianapolis Power & Light Co. customers could see an increase in their monthly bills if state regulators allow it. AP News reports the company could raise its residential customers' power rates by nearly 10 percent under two proposed increases in monthly charges. According to the news report, IPL wants state regulators to let it increase the monthly "fixed charge" customers now pay by 59 percent, or from $17 to $27, in addition to seeking a raise in its monthly energy charge based on how much electricity customers' use.

AP News says The Indianapolis Business Journal reports those increases could raise rates on IPL’s typical residential customer about 10 percent.

Some large industrial buyers, environmentalists and consumer groups are opposing the proposed increases, saying they're too steep.
