IFD: Several Water Rescues In Last Three Weeks

The Indianapolis Fire Department reports seven dive rescues since June 22.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Indianapolis Fire Department has been busy the last few weeks due to several water rescues. If you're planning on spending time on the water this weekend, be aware of your surroundings. Rita Reith, Battalion Chief with the Indianapolis Fire Department, said they've had seven working dive rescues since June 22.

"Maybe over the entire summer that wouldn't be a big number, but in three weeks time it's due to lack of common sense," Reith said. Several of the events have been reported to the department's news Twitter page, @IFD_NEWS.

Heavy rain this week caused flooding in several area bodies of water and roadways. @IFD_NEWS tweeted out a warning Wednesday following these recent rescues, "Wear a life jacket or stay off the water." The account also reports IFD has pulled 18 from waterways in the last three weeks. (For more weather and news updates, subscribe to the free Indianapolis Patch daily newsletter).
