• Warm Front Could Bring Friday Afternoon Storms and Isolated Large Hail to Chicago, Kenosha, Gary, and Northwest Indiana After a Cooler Thursday (bananatreenews.today) — Gary residents should expect a cooler Thursday in the upper 60s to low 70s before a warm front brings scattered showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon. While the severe risk is low, forecasters say a few storms crossing Gary and northwest Indiana could produce isolated large hail, so anyone with Friday plans should monitor updates in case conditions change.
• Of Notoriety: Michigan City magician ready for big screen; club reaches charity goal (chicagotribune.com) — A Lake County Italian American women's club has donated $10,000 to Safe Haven Baby Boxes, helping support boxes already installed in Gary and other Northwest Indiana communities. The group raised the funds through a spring spaghetti dinner and related activities, then voted to direct the money to the nonprofit. The piece also spotlights a Michigan City magician's award-winning film and an upcoming Houdini tribute show in Michigan.
• Portage asks IURC to investigate NIPSCO staffing levels (chicagotribune.com) — Power restoration concerns that hit Gary and neighboring cities are now driving Portage officials to ask state regulators to investigate whether NIPSCO has enough linemen to handle major storms. Union representatives say staffing in the Gary line department has dropped sharply even as surrounding communities, including Portage, have grown, raising questions about how prepared the grid is for future severe weather.
