1. Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority Issues RFQ for Design Services (greatnews.life) — A major transit upgrade is moving forward in downtown Gary as the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority seeks design firms for a new ADA-accessible multimodal rail station and parking garage to replace the aging Adam Benjamin Metro Center. The City of Gary will help choose the architect and guide key design decisions, shaping how residents and visitors move through the city for decades.
2. Portage asks IURC to investigate NIPSCO staffing levels (chicagotribune.com) — Gary households are part of a NIPSCO service area where lineman staffing has dropped from about 30 to fewer than 10, even as surrounding communities have grown. While the concerts and album events are in Chicago and New York, the story highlights how her Gary roots and ongoing work with local students shape her rising international music career.
4. GE Appliances employees volunteer to support community organizations (wave3.com) — Residents in Gary recently benefited from a GE Appliances and Red Cross mobile laundry unit that handled more than 500 loads of laundry after disasters. The story mainly highlights Louisville-based volunteer projects, but it underscores how corporate volunteerism can bring very practical help to Gary neighbors when they're displaced or struggling to meet basic needs.
