• Florida Man Sentenced to Nearly Five Years for Armed Hammond Cigarette Robbery (regionnewssource.org) — A Florida man has been sentenced to nearly five years in federal prison for helping orchestrate an armed robbery of cigarette delivery workers in Hammond, using his insider knowledge as a security guard. The 2022 holdup, investigated by the FBI and Hammond Police, netted more than $25,000 in cigarettes, and the defendant must repay that amount and serve supervised release after prison.
   

• 'Talk About Dropping the Ball': Bears Legend Brian Urlacher Voices Frustration Over Indiana Move (essentiallysports.com) — Hammond is front and center in the Chicago Bears' stadium search, with team leadership confirming the city as one of two finalists and reportedly favoring an Indiana move. Bears legend Brian Urlacher blasts Illinois officials for "dropping the ball" yet still insists the team should maximize revenue, while reiterating his personal preference for the team to stay outdoors at Soldier Field.
