3. Thieves clone $60K shipment, redirect 41,000 pounds of glycerin in Illinois (freightwaves.com) — A $60,000 shipment of high-grade glycerin that started in Hammond was nearly stolen after thieves allegedly cloned its shipping details and tried to reroute it to Thornton, Illinois. Cook County investigators intercepted the semi before the 41,000-pound load could disappear, highlighting how sophisticated cargo theft schemes can still touch Hammond-based shipments.
   

4. Winless Chargers down one receiver (altoonamirror.com) — Hammond is still in the conversation as the Chicago Bears weigh options for a new stadium and mixed-use development, despite fresh talks between NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Illinois leaders.
