1,900 Tickets, 119 Arrests In Marion Co. During 24-Day Period
The Marion County Traffic Safety Partnership shares a breakdown of arrests made, tickets issued during recent 'Drive Sober' period.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Marion County Traffic Safety Partnership is sharing the results of the recent 24-day Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign period. During the recent period, which included Labor Day, the Marion County Traffic Safety Partnership reported efforts made by officials from Indianapolis Metropolitan Police, Indiana State Police, Beech Grove Police, Speedway Police, Cumberland Police, Indiana University Police and Lawrence Police resulted in the following:
- 1,914 traffic citations
- 119 driving impaired arrests, (95 misdemeanor and 24 felony)
- Nine other arrests, (seven misdemeanor and two felony)
About 230 Indiana law-enforcement agencies joined thousands of agencies nationwide to increase roving patrols, saturation patrols and sobriety checkpoints for the 24-day campaign, which is supported with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration funds distributed by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.
According to a release, "Drive High - Get an OWI" also applies to everyone on the road, as impaired driving includes more than alcohol, and there is no quick field test for the many prescription, over-the-counter and illegal drugs that can impair drivers. Police officers who are highly trained to recognize drug-impaired driving were given Android tablets to simplify the documentation process for prosecution.
