Boasting mild temperatures year-round and plenty of Carolina sunshine, Myrtle Beach is an affordable option for families looking for a beach getaway. Not only is there miles of seashore perfect for walking, collecting shells or playing in the surf, Myrtle Beach offers seemingly endless activities for families from attractions to water parks to entertaining resorts. Here are five of my favorite things to do in Myrtle Beach:
1. Myrtle Beach SkyWheel

For a bird's eye view of the beach -- and the entire Grand Strand -- take a ride on the 200-foot Myrtle Beach SkyWheel. Not only can you enjoy the scenery from an enclosed gondola, you can also check out the LED light show every night on the wheel itself. The SkyWheel is located along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, which also has some great shopping.
2. Ripley's Aquarium

My kids found Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach one of their favorite aquariums as it's very interactive and has the impressive tunnel where all sorts of sea life, including sharks, swim overhead. You'll also have a chance to pet a stingray (who knew you could do that?), which kids will love. The aquarium is located at Broadway at the Beach, a bustling entertainment center with shopping, restaurants and even carnival rides.
3. Play at a Resort
Myrtle Beach resorts are almost stand-alone attractions all on their own. Most have indoor and outdoor pools, jacuzzis and water parks, arcades and even bowling alleys! Check out Crown Reef Beach Resort & Waterpark with impressive water slides and Captain's Quarters with its own bowling alley. Of course, there are also lots of great beaches along the Grand Strand for some water play.
4. Go on a Safari!
Myrtle Beach is home to a 50-acre wildlife preserve where more than 100 animals live, and visitors can take their very own "safari" of the property. You'll see lots of big cats, a "liger" and elephants on the T.I.G.E.R.S. Myrtle Beach Safari.
5. Learn About Alligators
Lots of gators call the Carolinas home and it's better to meet them in a controlled environment instead of on the golf course! At Alligator Adventure, you'll get a firsthand look at these creatures and learn all about their habitat, eating habits and more.
