1. Indianapolis Bans New Data Centers Until 2028 as Backlash Spreads (lmtonline.com) — Indianapolis has temporarily banned new data centers through the end of 2027, giving city and Marion County officials time to study how these massive facilities affect neighborhoods, infrastructure, and utilities. With 48 data centers already in the region and power needs surging statewide, the moratorium aims to balance tech growth with concerns over noise, pollution, and strained electric and water systems.
2. 5 migrants from Chicago charged with Indianapolis jewelry store heist, Tren de Aragua ties alleged (cwbchicago.com) — Indianapolis police say five Venezuelan migrants living in Chicago are charged in a $2 million armed robbery at King Jewelers, where staff were restrained and jewelry and cash were stolen. Officers used cameras, drones, and a highway pursuit across multiple counties to arrest the suspects and recover alleged loot, while Indiana officials investigate possible ties to an international theft gang.
3. Aging Infrastructure Tested By Indiana Flooding (wibc.com) — Recent Indiana flooding, reported from Indianapolis, is exposing how aging roads, stormwater systems, and power networks can fail together under severe weather. An IU resilience expert urges residents to build strong social networks, report recurring street flooding, and work with local officials and HOAs to understand and maintain stormwater infrastructure before the next big storm hits.
4. Hoosier Lottery Cash 5, Daily 3 winning numbers for Aug. 23, 2026 (indystar.com) — If you played the Hoosier Lottery on August 23, here are the winning numbers for Cash 5, Daily 3, Daily 4, Quick Draw, Cash Pop, and Millionaire for Life, plus exactly how and where to claim your prize.
