1. Trial underway for Indianapolis mother charged with murder in 5-year-old daughter's death (wthr.com) — An Indianapolis mother is back on trial in Marion County, accused of murdering her 5-year-old daughter after a previous proceeding ended in a mistrial. Prosecutors describe extreme neglect leading to the child's 2024 death, while the defense concedes neglect but disputes that she intended to kill. Two other relatives have already pleaded guilty to neglect and are expected to testify.
   

2. Free dog and cat adoptions coming soon to Indianapolis shelter (wishtv.com) — Indianapolis pet lovers can adopt dogs and cats for free this weekend at the new city-run shelter on East Raymond Street, where fees will be waived during the Summer Sidekicks event. Staff will help match families with pets, and all animals come spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. You can also learn about fostering, volunteering, and view adoptable pets online.
   

3. Joseph Myers named next CEO of Indiana LGBTQ+ youth nonprofit (insideindianabusiness.com) — An Indianapolis-based LGBTQ+ youth nonprofit, IYG, has promoted longtime staffer Joseph Myers to become its next CEO this November, succeeding retiring leader Chris Paulsen. The group, founded in Indianapolis and now operating five centers statewide, supports LGBTQ+ Hoosiers ages 12 to 24 with basic needs, mental health care, and community programs. Myers plans to strengthen systems and expand services.
   

4. Veterans Affairs has deployed federal electronic health record system in Fort Wayne (journalgazette.net) — Veterans receiving care at the Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis will now be part of a new federal electronic health record system meant to streamline care and reduce duplicate testing across Indiana. The piece also notes a Red Cross blood donation push and statewide storm cleanup support ordered by Gov. Mike Braun, resources that could matter to Indianapolis-area residents with storm damage or those able to donate blood.
