📰 News we're reading

1. Flood damage throws wrench in DPW budget proposal (wthr.com) — Indianapolis' Department of Public Works budget is moving to the full City-County Council just as historic flood damage forces costly road repairs, including a $2.5 million fix on River Road. DPW is seeking federal emergency help, tallying another $700,000 in recovery costs, and tracking how the state's temporary gas tax suspension and reimbursements affect funding for local street maintenance.

2. Mysterious buzzing noise annoying southeast side Indy neighbors for months (wthr.com) — Southeast side Indianapolis neighbors say a persistent overnight humming or vibration has been disrupting their sleep and peace at home for months, and they still do not know the source. City officials are investigating and asking residents to file complaints through the Mayor's Action Center or RequestIndy so they can track the problem and determine if it violates noise rules.

3. Current Jobs and Internships (iu.edu) — A local nonprofit based on East 86th Street in Indianapolis is hiring a paid development intern at $15 per hour for about 10 hours weekly. The role supports fundraising, communications, and donor relations, with flexible remote or in-office work and occasional in-state travel alongside the President/CEO.

4. SWING STATE — Principal Actors (broadwayworld.com) — Indianapolis actors have a chance to audition this October for Summit Performance Indy's production of "Swing State," with Equity principal auditions set for Oct. 19 at the Phoenix Theatre on North Illinois Street. The company is seeking diverse performers for several key roles, with rehearsals beginning in May 2027 and performances running in June at the Phoenix Theatre Cultural Centre.

5. 20 Past 4 & More owner accused of selling marijuana out of his stores (wane.com) — An Indianapolis branch of the 20 Past 4 & More smoke shop chain was among locations raided by Indiana State Excise Police after undercover buys of THC products allegedly far above the legal limit. The Fort Wayne-based owner now faces multiple felony dealing and money laundering charges, with investigators accusing him of operating in a legal "gray area" and using questionable lab documents.
