1. Indy Chamber Proposes $1 Billion West Street transformation (wishtv.com) — A $1 billion Indy Chamber proposal could dramatically reshape West Street in downtown Indianapolis by sinking parts of the road and adding new streets, walkways, and green space. Backers say better links between IU Health, 16 Tech, the canal, and Lucas Oil Stadium could fuel downtown growth for decades, though the plan is still in early design and fundraising stages.
2. Man killed in far southwest Indianapolis shooting (wthr.com) — A man has died after being shot Wednesday afternoon on the far southwest side of Indianapolis, near I-69 and Southport Road, and IMPD homicide detectives are still investigating what happened. Several people were detained and released after consultation with prosecutors, and authorities are asking anyone in Indianapolis with information to contact detectives or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
3. Panel advances $400 million budget proposal for Indianapolis police in 2027 (wishtv.com) — Indianapolis leaders just advanced a nearly $400 million 2027 police budget, about a quarter of the city's total spending plan, and the full council will take public comment Monday evening at the City-County Building. Supporters say the money will boost staffing, overtime, and technology like Flock cameras, while critics want more justification and transparency before approving the 11.5% increase.
4. Heart Rock: Recovery Housing for Moms and Babies in Indy (indyschild.com) — A new recovery housing option in Indianapolis offers long-term, stable, sober living for pregnant and parenting women while allowing babies and toddlers to stay with their moms. Heart Rock Justus Family Recovery Center provides free initial housing, therapy, job and financial training, and holistic wellness support, helping local families rebuild stability and avoid choosing between recovery and their children.
5. Mirror Indy employees vote to unionize, join Indianapolis Newspaper Guild (indystar.com) — Mirror Indy staffers have voted to unionize and are asking Free Press Indiana's leadership to voluntarily recognize their new Indiana Local News Guild unit, which will join the Indianapolis Newspaper Guild alongside IndyStar employees. The newsroom, known for its investigation into Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett, says organizing will help ensure staff have a voice as they expand coverage for Hoosier communities.
