'I just wanted to be back in jail': Court docs suggest man started fire in Kroger hours after being released from Marion County ADC (fox59.com) β€” Indianapolis investigators say a man recently released from the Marion County jail set a fire inside the Kroger on Twin Aire Drive, destroying thousands of dollars in merchandise. The 23-year-old Speedway resident is now back in custody on two Level 4 felony arson charges, with no-contact orders protecting the store and employees and a no-bond hold in place.

Indianapolis City-County Council to hold final public hearing on 2027 budget (wishtv.com) β€” Indianapolis residents can weigh in tonight on the proposed $1.9 billion 2027 city budget at a 7 p.m. public hearing in the City-County Building's Public Assembly Room. Key debates include a sizable funding increase for IMPD, more money for transportation infrastructure, and shifting Community Corrections fees, with a final council vote set for Oct. 19.

Indiana State Police locate third vehicle involved in I-465 school bus crash (wishtv.com) β€” Indiana State Police say they've located the blue minivan involved in last week's school bus crash on an I-465 ramp in Indianapolis that injured 13 people, including eight children. Investigators believe the van never struck the bus but still want to interview its driver as they piece together how the Warren Township school bus tipped onto its side.

Indiana just took over its own radioactive-materials oversight (morningoverview.com) β€” Indiana has officially taken over regulation of most radioactive-material licenses from the federal government, with oversight now run out of an Indianapolis state office. About 213 medical, academic, and industrial licenses shifted to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, which will handle licensing, inspections, and enforcement while the NRC continues periodic reviews and retains control of reactors and certain other nuclear activities.

'All INdiana Politics': Albright and Forrestal battle for closely divided seat in Senate District 31 (wrtv.com) β€” Voters in parts of northeastern Marion County and Fishers will see a closely watched race for Indiana Senate District 31 between Republican Dr. Juanita Albright and Democrat Kerry Forrestal. The candidates are clashing over affordability, childcare, healthcare access, redistricting, and how the state should fund roads and mental health services in metro areas like Marion County.
