Body Found At IMS Parking Lot Identified

Officials identify a body found Monday in a tent at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as 38-year-old Adam Melchi, a race attendee for 21 years.

SPEEDWAY, IN — A body that was found in a tent by campers Monday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has been identified. WTTV reports a coroner has identified the deceased as 38-year-old Adam Melchi, of Plano, Illinois. According to WTTV, autopsy results are still pending but officials do not believe his death suspicious.

Officials say more than 200 people were treated at the infield medical center while crews helped race attendees through heat-related issues, as the race was the second hottest Indy 500 on record at 91 degrees.

According to The Indianapolis Star, Melchi's wife said her husband had been going to the race for 21 years, and that the father of five wanted his ashes spread at the track some day.

The news report adds that Melchi's wife said he had no concerning medical conditions.

Police haven't said whether heat played a role in Melchi's death.

Police officials are investigating after a body was found in a tent by campers on the west side of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Monday afternoon. WISH reports Speedway Police and a coroner are on the scene at Lot 2 in the 2000 block of Georgetown Road after officers were called to the area around 1:49 p.m.

According to WISH there are no details yet on a cause of death, however Lt. Trent Theobald with Speedway Police Department confirmed to the news source that there are investigators at the scene.
