Boy, 2, Dies After Being Pulled From Southeast Side Pool
Police say a 2-year-old boy was visiting a southeast side home when he was found at the bottom of a pool and died at the hospital.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — A 2-year-old boy has died after being found at the bottom of a swimming pool on Wednesday at a home on the southeast side of Indianapolis. WTHR reported the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department arrived to the 11000 block of Maze Creek Drive after getting a call that a child was the bottom of the pool. WTHR said that according to a press release, medical personnel tried to revive the boy and took him to Franciscan Health Indianapolis, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said the child was a visitor at the home.
According to the 2017 Drowning Prevention Report by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), 50 percent of drownings in Indiana occur in the months of June, July and August.

The report says 12 percent of 114 people who drowned in 2017 drowned in a pool, and 29 of the 114 drowning victims in 2017 were children ages 0 to 12.
The report includes statistics from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), saying drowning is the number one leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, and typically occur when a child is left unattended or during a lapse in supervision.
