Fill Up With National French Fry Day

Where to celebrate and fill up with fries during National French Fry Day.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - It's Fry-day! No, not the last day of the work week, but just as great. Today is National French Fry Day, trending as #NationalFrenchFryDay across Twitter and social media. In honor of this fantastic fry-filled "holiday," I am listing my favorite French fries across the Indianapolis area. Yes, French fries are at almost every eatery you can think of, especially fast food, but these stand out. If you can't make it out to any of these locations today, I'll give you a grace period — the entire weekend.

  • Brugge Brasserie, 1011 E. Westfield Blvd, Indianapolis: Don't call them French fries. At Brugge their known as frites, "The classic pomme frites of Belgium" to be exact. Whether you order a small, medium or large plate of frites, there will be enough to share. Even better, the order comes with your choice of a dozen dipping sauces. Too good to be true. See for yourself at bruggebrasserie.com.
  • HopCat, 6280 N. College Ave., Indianapolis: Two words - Crack Fries. There isn't a better way to describe these as they're addicting, and I can't decide whether it's the seasoning or the dipping sauce. Either way, HopCat and your plate full of these fries is just a walk down the street away from Brugge. Plus, Crack Fries are half off every Monday starting at 3 p.m. Menu: hopcat.com.
  • Cafe Patachou, Clay Terrace, 14390 Clay Terrace Blvd., Carmel: Get yourself a plate or side of Duck Fat Frites. They're fried in duck fat, and besides the drool-worthy taste, you'd never be able to tell. Choose from housemade aioli (the best), dijon mayonnaise or ketchup.
  • Five Guys, several locations throughout the Indianapolis area and the U.S.: Fresh cut potatoes cooked in pure peanut oil. The tasty, filling amount of fries are poured right into your bag. Choose from Five Guys Style or Cajun Style. Locations: fiveguys.com.
  • Scotty's Brewhouse, several Indiana locations: Besides Chick-fil-A, this is my go-to place for waffle fries. Get them loaded or plain. Locations: scottysbrewhouse.com.
