Garbage Pick Up Delays: See If You're Affected

Largely out of concern for their collectors, Waste Management is delaying waste pick up in certain areas. See if you're on the list.

INDIANA — Waste Management is warning Indiana residents that their waste pick up may be delayed due to the icy conditions, which may make it dangerous for drivers and collectors to do their job.

"Due to the hazardous weather and road conditions for Indiana, your collection service may be delayed," the Waste Management website says.

Waste Management listed the following reasons for why they may not pick up waste in hazardous conditions:

  • Unable to access container when it’s plowed in or covered with snow/ice
  • Container not visible by driver if placed behind a snow mound or inaccessible to the driver to reach safely
  • Steep hill or winding road that may be difficult to navigate during snow or ice conditions
  • No place to turn around due to areas not being plowed
  • Road closures
  • Wind chill factor which impacts the safety of our drivers and proper vehicle operation
  • Reduced visibility such as blizzard conditions, sleet, fog and hail

"We will make every effort to notify you of weather-related service impacts. Please ensure we have your updated contact information including your email and home phone number," the website says.

To find out if your service will be delayed, log in to your account at wm.com or call them at 866-797-9018. They're open Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
