Go-to Decorator for Sorority Interiors Assists New Alpha Chi Omega HQ

Liz Toombs, Certified Interior Decorator, president and owner of the Lexington, Ky.-based firm PDR Interiors, recently completed an interiors project on behalf of the Alpha Chi Omega national headquarters in Indianapolis.

Toombs and her colleagues selected all the finishes, furniture, decorative lighting, designed the entry floor inlay, and designed the archive cabinets. PDR Interiors began planning for the project in October 2021 and Alpha Chi Omega employees moved into the building April 2022 with a little bit of construction - specifically archive cabinets - finishing up through the summer. They dedicated the building in October 2022.

“This was a special project to be a part of because I know the sorority so well from all my years of working on projects for individual chapter houses all over the country,” said Toombs. “What is so rewarding is to see the dramatic contrast between the two buildings with the new office being bright, airy and branded for Alpha Chi Omega.”

At 10,000 square feet, the new headquarters is about half the size of Alpha Chi Omega’s last headquarters. This new space primarily serves as a place for staff to meet when necessary and also for members to come and learn about the history of the organization.

The reimagined space represents where Alpha Chi Omega business takes place and allows for optimal teamwork and collaboration through a feeling of connectedness to Alpha Chi Omega and our sisters.”

Indianapolis has been the home of Alpha Chi Omega since 1929, when their offices moved to downtown Indianapolis from Washington, DC. This building is their seventh headquarters and the new home for their sisterhood as they work together to further the vision of Alpha Chi Omega.

Liz Toombs, president, owner and lead decorator of the Lexington, Ky.-based firm PDR Interiors (pdr-interiors.com), is known as the go-to decorator for sorority interiors with 90 projects on college campuses across 25 states. Previously she worked on projects at 31 of Alpha Chi Omega’s individual chapters.

While attending the University of Kentucky, Toombs was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta and learned the value of having a mentor. Today she serves as a presenter, speaker and mentor for the sorority’s Empower Program.

Toombs leverages her teaching skills – first acquired as an Adjunct Professor/Instructor at the University of Kentucky – in May 2022 launched her “Sorority Chat” podcast, which features interviews with leaders in the national Greek system.

In 2017, Toombs started The Mary Estes Memorial Scholarship in honor of her mother Mary Estes. The scholarship is awarded annually to a University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment student who has lost a parent from cancer.
