IFD Delivering Gifts To Local Family Affected By Hurricane Irma
IFD team members are giving Christmas cheer to a family who moved back after losing everything during Hurricane Irma in Florida.

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Crews from Indianapolis Fire Department Station 8 are making it a very merry Christmas for a local mom and her two daughters after a recent difficult time. IFD says they'll be delivering early Christmas gifts to Ashley and daughters Auyonia (9), Ashlynn (5) at A62 apartments in Indianapolis Saturday afternoon. The woman and her two daughters moved to Florida in July 2017, but IFD says they lost everything nearly a month later on Aug. 30 when Hurricane Irma hit Florida. Ashley previously worked for IU Health, but was able to move back to Indianapolis after the storm took everything from her family, and start a new job at a senior care facility in late September.
IFD says difficulty struck again when Ashley lost her babysitter and her employer wouldn't allow her to switch out from her 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. shift to accommodate for childcare, leading her to lose her job. According to IFD, Ashley has no income or child support and was just approved for food stamps.
IFD says Station 8 is providing gifts to the family and three beds that the IFD Rehab Support Unit will deliver.
