INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Three Indianapolis Fire Department Firefighters were injured after their fire engine collided with a dump truck Wednesday morning at 43rd and Capitol Avenue, department officials said. IFD says just before 11 a.m. 48-year-old George White was driving a Jungs Trucking Garbage Truck, and claims he heard fire engine sirens but could not see where the sounds were coming from. According to IFD, the man said he couldn't stop when he finally saw the fire engine, causing the trucks to collide, pushing the department's engine into the wall of a nearby yard.
The lit up and loud IFD Engine 31 was on an EMS run in the 600 block of W. 43rd Street, and were almost through the intersection across Capitol Avenue when they were hit, IFD reports.
IFD Battalion Chief Rita Reith says the three firefighters were transported to Methodist Hospital, but were not admitted as they're expected to make a full recovery.
