Homicide Victim Is IU School Of Medicine's Dr. Kevin Rodgers

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — We now know more about the person found dead Monday inside a northwest side home, as Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say a man was found dead just after noon, as officers and Pike Township Medics say he was suffering from signs of trauma. That man was identified as Kevin Rogers, MD, and program director emeritus of the emergency medicine residency for the IU School of Medicine, according to the school. IU School of Medicine released a statement to Patch following Rodger's death inside what IMPD says was a home at 7500 block of Ballinshire S Drive.

“We learned this afternoon that one of our most revered faculty members, Kevin Rodgers, MD, died earlier today. The specific circumstances are unknown and a formal investigation by IMPD is underway. The IU School of Medicine community is deeply saddened by this loss. Dr. Rodgers was a well-respected faculty educator who was heavily involved in the Emergency Medicine training program for more than 25 years. He received the 2015 Inspirational Educator Award in recognition of extraordinary teaching, based on the growth, development and professionalism of learners.”

It's a somber day on the school's campus while people mourn the death of Rodgers, as an IU School of Medicine student told Patch in a message that "everyone loved him."

According to IMPD, he was pronounced dead on scene Monday, and homicide detectives with the department began searching the area for witnesses.
