Indiana Man Shot, Burned Ex-Girlfriend's Dogs: Police

Police said Jordan Hunt, 27, faces felonies including animal cruelty in the death of two dogs in Pike County.

HAZELTON, IN — Indiana State Police said a Hazelton man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after an investigation of the death of two dogs in rural Pike County. Police said 27-year-old Jordan Hunt was arrested at 12:25 p.m., after Chelsie Koutz, the owner of the two dogs and Hunt's former girlfriend, contacted Evansville Police Department Tuesday evening and told them someone had entered her Evansville home and taken her two dogs.

According to police, Koutz posted information about her missing dogs, named Roxy and Willow, on Facebook and was offering a reward for the return of her two pets.

Koutz's mother also posted an update to Facebook (below) offering a cash reward for the dogs, pitbull/Labrador mix and a goldendoodle, and said they had contacted Hunt and his family, with no response from Hunt.

Shortly after noon Wednesday, a person who saw the post on Koutz's Facebook contacted her about the location of her pets, and officers responded to a rural area on C.R. 200 North near Hazelton, where they found both dogs had been burned and were dead. Police said investigators believe both dogs were shot before they were set on fire, police said.

Hunt drove away from the area, but was taken into police custody at his home in the 3900 block of East SR 56 and sent to the Pike County Jail, where police said he's being held on charges of with intimidation, domestic violence - animal cruelty and killing a domestic animal, all felony charges.

He's being held on $350,000 bond, according to state police.

State police said the Pike County Sheriff's Department and Evansville Police Department assisted in this case.
